BYU Program Prepares Mormons for Hollywood Career and Cultural Influence

Mormons have figured out one way to really penetrate and engage the culture from their decidedly counter cultural perspective. A recent piece in the New York Times tells how a Brigham Young University computer-animation program is earning respect and professional positions in Hollywood studios.

Divorce and Government Tyranny

Divorce and Government Tyranny

We all know that marriage in America has been having a tough go of it in recent decades. The left is getting everything it has always wanted with what we can call the traditional family: mom, dad, married, with kids, is becoming increasingly rare. In fact the percentage of Americans who are married has reached an all time low. This all started a long time ago, but broke out in the glorious 1960s with the sexual revolution and the passing of no-fault divorce laws throughout…

Religion on the Decline, Media Shouts, and Shouts, and Shouts

Religion on the Decline, Media Shouts, and Shouts, and Shouts

I can’t help but thinking of Snidley Whiplash when I read stories of the decline and impending demise of religion in America. The rise of the so called “nones” has made big news, and I can’t help but think of journalists writing their stories as they as they twirl their mustaches in wicked glee (women can always use a fake mustache). Secular cultural elites and intellectuals in the West have dreamed of a post-religious thoroughly secular society since the so called Enlightenment, and now they…

Happy Parent 1 Day!

Happy Parent 1 Day!

On Sunday when I woke up from my slumber I turned to my wife and said, Happy Parent 1 Day! She laughed. Little did I know how prescient I was. Sometime later that day I come upon an article that explained, surprise, surprise, that the Department of Education is going to Eliminate 'Mother,' 'Father' from federal student aid forms! Just as I predicted, out with father and mother, in with Parent 1 and Parent 2! Why only two, I’m not sure, but we’ll eventually “progress”…

The New Scarlet Letter

The New Scarlet Letter

What do Tim Tebow, the US Military, Chris Broussard and Chick-fil-A have in common? They are all examples in 2013 America that our cultural elites HATE Christians, and will do anything they can to silence, delegitimize, stigmatize, and demonize them. Western cultural elites have always hated Christians, but the boomer venerated 1960s started a process of culture forming professions being taken over, so to speak, by secular progressives. By now media, entertainment and education/academia are totally dominated by these people who literally despise conservative Christianity.…

Secular Liberal Sees ‘Consensus’ on Redefining Marriage as Terrifying

Secular Liberal Sees ‘Consensus’ on Redefining Marriage as Terrifying

Most Americans who have an opinion about the current obsession to redefine marriage tend to think the only people standing athwart history yelling “STOP!” are conservative religious folk. They would be wrong. Certainly a large majority of people who embrace traditional morality based on revealed religion do not accept the notion that marriage is a malleable social construct that can be willy-nilly defined any which way we choose. But redefining marriage is such a bad idea, and as importantly is being done in such a…

Cultural Caricature of Christians as Hypocrites is Affirmed in Flawed Study

Cultural Caricature of Christians as Hypocrites is Affirmed in Flawed Study

I’m not a big fan of the Barna Group, a “research organization focused on the intersection of faith and culture.” I normally like such intersections, because our secular cultural elites like to keep them clear and they get annoyed when people of faith, especially conservative Christians have the temerity to think their views actually deserve a fair hearing in the public square. Why I particularly don’t like Barna is because their polling is unnuanced and inaccurate, specifically regarding how people in America perceive conservative Christians.

You’ve Got to Be Kidding!!! Bill Maher Defends Christianity!!!

April 21, 2013
By

On my morning visit to Real Clear Politics I see a link that makes me think I must have woken up in an alternate reality, where Spock has a beard and Bill Maher is a defender of the Christian religion. That link proves to be real, ‘Maher To Defender Of Islam: Equating Christianity And Islam “Liberal Bullshit.”‘ Bill Maher, atheist extraordinaire, who has said that religion, most especially Christianity, is a mental disease, actually has a moment of clarity and rebukes a liberal agenda pusher…

It’s All About the Children: Except When It Comes to Redefining Marriage

It’s All About the Children: Except When It Comes to Redefining Marriage

In modern America at the risk of being branded a bigoted intolerant hater, I seek here to explain the radical hypocrisy of the left-liberal when it comes to the popular issue de jure, redefining marriage. As we are told ad nauseum, marriage is about, all about, beginning, middle and end, the romantic relationship of two adults (why not more, well, I can only point out so much inconsistency in one blog post). Children, well not so much.

Can Conservatives Reclaim the Culture?

Can Conservatives Reclaim the Culture?

If you happen to be in southern or central Michigan tomorrow, please consider heading to Hillsdale College, where the Liberty21 Institute is hosting a panel discussion at addressing the provocative question: Can Conservatives Reclaim the Culture? Since the last election, many on the right have begun to argue that conservatives have lost the culture and that getting back into the cultural mainstream is essential to any long-term success for conservatives and/or the liberty movement. Culture, they now realize, is far too important to leave to the…

It’s Finally 1984!

April 8, 2013
By

I think George Orwell might be surprised to find that the dystopian future he envisioned in his classic novel 1984 didn’t come with a totalitarian Soviet boot stamped on a face in 2013. Rather it seems to be coming in the name of equality and tolerance. The love that dare not speak its name has become the love that will not shut up, and now the love that demands universal affirmation, or else.

Happy Easter, Google!

Over at PJ Media, “Google Celebrates Easter in their Own Special Way.” UPDATE: I Came across this piece, ”Why It’s Fitting to Remember Cesar Chavez on Easter Sunday” and thought I’m sure the irony is completely lost on Google.

Some Liberals Get the Importance of Marriage!

Some Liberals Get the Importance of Marriage!

And I don’t mean the oxymoronic kind making the rounds in the Supreme Court. I mean the real kind, the kind that includes the biological possibility of children, the kind of marriage every society in the history of the world knew it to be, until the 21st Century that is, when for some reason in the name of equality it needs to be redefined. But I digress, even before I get started. Ruth Marcus is a Washington Post reliably liberal op-ed columnist. Her latest piece…

Philadelphia Mayor: If You Try to Talk About Race Relations, We’ll Shut You Up!

I wrote this week about an article in Philadelphia Magazine by a Robert Huber, who shared with the audience his white perspective on race relations in Philadelphia. As I pointed out, I don’t think Philly is unique, because left-liberal attitudes and policies have poisoned attitudes toward race in America for decades.  But it looks like you better not utter such politically incorrect thoughts in Philadelphia out loud, lest the mayor sic the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission on you. It looks like Mark Steyn’s experience in Canada crossing the…

Apocalypse Imminent: Bill Maher says, “I just want to say liberals — you could actually lose me.”

No, this is not from The Onion. It seems that even the most radically leftist liberals, like Mr. Maher, have a threshold when the government takes just too damn much of their money!
